We’ve all been there.
The speaker delivers a solid talk, builds momentum, shares some great ideas…
And then ends with:
🚫 “That’s all I had.”
🚫 “Umm, yeah… I think I’m done.”
🚫 “Thank you, bye.”
😬 Talk about a flat finish.
A great speech deserves a great ending—just as strong (if not stronger) than the opening.
Your conclusion is your final impression. It’s the part your audience will remember when they walk out the door. It’s where you drive the message home, inspire action, and stir emotion.
Here’s how to make your ending memorable and meaningful.
✅ 1️⃣ End with a Powerful Hook
Just like your intro, the end needs a punch—a final moment that makes people say, “Wow!”
Use one of these proven closers:
💡 A thought-provoking quote
📖 A short story or allegory that ties it all together
🧠 A proverb or timeless piece of wisdom
Example:
“As Mandela once said, ‘It always seems impossible until it’s done.’ So, go out there and do the impossible.”
This creates emotional resonance and gives your speech a poetic finish.
✅ 2️⃣ Tell Your Audience What to Think, Feel, or Do
Every great conclusion includes a call to action (CTA).
Don’t just summarize. Tell them what to do next with what they’ve learned.
Here’s a 3-part formula:
- Reinforce your key message
- Use a compelling hook to add impact
- End with a clear call to action
Strong CTA Examples:
📢 “If we all apply these principles and master financial discipline, success will be inevitable. I wish you all the best in your journey ahead.”
📢 “With these relationship-building techniques, you can create a happier, more peaceful home. Try them out and see the magic happen!”
The goal is to move your audience from listening to doing.
❌ What NOT to Say at the End of Your Speech
Here are phrases to avoid at all costs:
🚫 “That’s it.”
🚫 “I’m done.”
🚫 “Uhh… yeah, thank you.”
🚫 “I don’t know what else to say.”
These rob your message of power and leave your audience underwhelmed.
Confidence doesn’t end when the content does.
It ends when you walk off stage with purpose.
